“Dr Fishman & her entire staff were absolutely amazing. I have a terrible fear of dentists and she made me feel so calm. Bianca, the dental assistant was the sweetest, most gentle and caring person I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t of been able to sit through my procedure without her!!! It was by far the best experience I’ve ever had with any dentist! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!”

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a potentially life-threatening sleep disorder where your breathing repeatedly stops and starts while you sleep. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, you might have sleep apnea. There are three types of sleep apnea:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea – the most common form that occurs when throat muscles relax
  • Central sleep apnea – when your brain doesn’t send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing
  • Complex sleep apnea syndrome – when someone has both obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea

What Are Some Symptoms Of Sleep Apnea?

Symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apnea overlap each other. The most common signs and symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apneas include:

  • Loud snoring
  • Periods in which you stop breathing during sleep — observed by another person
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia)
  • Gasping for air during sleep
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty paying attention while awake
  • Morning headaches
  • Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
  • Awakening with a dry mouth

When Should I See A Doctor?

Loud snoring can indicate a potentially serious problem, but not everyone who has sleep apnea snores. Talk to our doctor if you have signs or symptoms of sleep apnea. Ask our doctor about any sleep problem that leaves you fatigued, sleepy and irritable. Book an appointment with our Sleep Apnea Specialist to get better rest and stop snoring.
